Bring a graceful, natural look to your garden with the BUDSHAPE Garden Stake from Stalen Design – an elegantly designed garden ornament, also known as a garden silhouette, outdoor decorative figure, metal garden stake, decorative plant stake, or corten steel garden sculpture. This artistic garden object is entirely designed and manufactured in the Netherlands and is perfect as a subtle eye-catcher in borders or along paths.

The BUDSHAPE is inspired by the elegant forms of fern-like ornamental plants and is laser-cut from high-quality, 3 mm thick Corten steel. This robust material develops a characteristic rust-colored patina when placed outdoors. This natural layer of oxidation protects the steel against further corrosion and gives it a warm, timeless appearance.

The garden stake has a visible height of 27 cm above ground and measures 40 cm in total, including the ground spike. You can easily place the silhouette in the soil, among perennials, in a border, or as a decorative accent along a pathway or pond.

About Corten steel

Corten steel is a high-quality metal alloy consisting of iron enriched with copper, phosphorus, silicon, nickel, and chromium. It is known for its distinctive rust-brown color and natural industrial aesthetic.

What makes Corten steel unique is the dense oxide film (rust layer) that forms on the surface. This layer protects the underlying material from oxygen, which significantly slows down the rusting process and allows the metal to last for years — without rusting through.

Important to know

Corten steel is supplied as standard in its original, grey metallic state (unrusted).
Minor imperfections in the corten steel (such as scratches/steel production codes) will become invisible during the rusting process.
Within approximately 1 to 2 months, a rust-coloured patina layer will form — completely natural, without any additional treatment.
During the rusting process, the material may stain surfaces or surrounding elements.
Corten steel is suitable for outdoor use in all weather conditions and does not require a coating.

Maintenance tips

Let the rusting process take its course. Do not use any chemical agents or oils.
Prevent moisture stains during storage: unpack the material immediately upon receipt.
Avoid standing water on horizontal surfaces to limit staining.
Clean only with water and a soft brush if desired — do not use aggressive cleaning agents.
When mounting on sensitive surfaces: consider a spacer or edge finish to prevent rust runoff.
